Insurance & Payment Options

Embodied Journeys is an out-of-network provider for all health insurance companies. We made the very conscious decision many years ago to not accept insurance for a number of reasons. We also recognize this can create a barrier to services for many people, and Embodied Journeys is committed to ensuring access to high-quality mental health care.

To square these two decisions, we offer several options to help ease the financial strain that comes with regular therapy.

Equity Pricing System

In the spirit of accessibility and economic justice, we offer an equity pricing system based on the Green Bottle Method as described by Alexis J. Cunningfolk. This model acknowledges that people have different relationships to money, privilege, and systemic barriers. We invite you to choose the rate that best reflects your current access to resources.

This is not a charity model — you won’t be asked to prove need. Instead, we trust you to choose the tier that feels most sustainable for you, and aligned with our mission.

  • This option is for for those with greater financial ability who can and want to support access to services for others.

HOW IT WORKS: You pay the max standard rate plus an amount of your choosing each session, which goes to help others in our community who need the supported rate.

  • This option features a range that reflects the actual cost of providing services, and allows us to sustain the services we provide at Embodied Journeys.

HOW IT WORKS: Choose a rate within the range that is most sustainable for your budget and the frequency of your sessions.

  • This option is for those with fewer financial resources or systemic barriers that limit access to care. Examples might include those on a fixed income, including disability, or currently unemployed.

HOW IT WORKS: When a spot is available, you’ll work with your provider to determine a rate that fits for your financial reality.

Please note: A limited number of spots are available at this rate and availability is largely dependent on the sustainability of the EJP community.

The goal here is to create a relationship that is equitable, respectful, and sustainable—for all of us!

Think about it this way:
If paying for therapy doesn’t significantly impact your ability to meet your basic needs like housing, food, or healthcare, you might consider the Standard or Pay It Forward rates.

If the Standard rate would lead to foregoing your basic needs, the Supported Rate may be a better fit.

Not sure which option makes sense for you? No problem.

Other Options for Affordability

  • Use Your Out-of-Network Benefits

Some insurance plans offer the benefit of out-of-network reimbursement*. We’re happy to provide you with a superbill—a receipt for services—that you can submit with a claim, or we can do it for you!

*Coverage varies by plan, so it’s a good idea to check with your insurance company first about whether your plan offers these benefits.

  • Lower-Fee Sessions with a Supervised Intern

At times, Embodied Journeys partners with graduate student interns on who offer therapy at a reduced rate. Interns are carefully selected and closely supervised by Jackie Abeling and a faculty supervisor at their university. This can be a great option for high-quality care at a lower cost.

We do not currently have interns at EJP.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Embodied Journeys is considered an out-of-network provider, which means we don't bill insurance companies directly. Instead, you pay the full fee at the time of service, and we provide you with a superbill — a detailed receipt for services — that you can submit to your insurance for possible reimbursement.

  • You can find our current rates for therapy and supervision sessions here.

  • The range list is available for the standard rate, which is part of our equity pricing system.

We want to create as much accessibility as possible, especially considering we don’t take insurance, and the range for our standard rate allows flexibility for your budget, while maintaining sustainability for EJP.

  • Yes! All therapy and supervision sessions are conducted via secure telehealth for clients and supervisees located in Washington, Minnesota, and British Columbia.

This allows for greater flexibility and accessibility, however occasional in-person sessions may be scheduled in certain circumstances.

  • Finding a therapist or supervisor is a deeply personal decision — and the fit matters. You might be looking for someone who really gets the ways ADHD, perfectionism, or body image struggles show up in your life. Or maybe you’re seeking a space where your full identity is welcomed and celebrated, without the pressure to fix or perform.

The best way to know if we’re a good match is to have a conversation. I offer a free 20-minute consultation so you can ask questions, get a feel for my approach, and decide if it feels right to move forward.

  • It depends. While we can’t tell you exactly how long therapy will take until we meet and discuss your goals, but we’re committed to collaborating with you about your needs—and you’re in charge the whole way.

  • Again, it depends! Generally speaking, we’ll start off meeting weekly until we have a clear plan for reaching your goals and develop a working relationship. After that, we’ll discuss your needs and meet at a frequency that works for you.

  • Supervision with Jackie is collaborative, liberation-centered, and tailored to your needs as a developing clinician.

Jackie aims to create a space where you can show up as your full self — where growth, critical reflection, and professional development happen in an environment of respect and care.
